HerpQuest

Baja California? Nevada? California? HerpQuest is the brainchild of Bob Thomson, Dean Leavitt, and Levi Gray. The goal: a three day (or so) annual trip to some remote area to search for a near-impossible amphibian or reptile, camp out, and see some great animals and habitats. And probably not find the target species (it's a quest, remember?). Thus far, HerpQuest 2006 (Heloderma in California) and 2007 (Pseudoeurycea in Arizona) were both stunning successes, despite the fact that neither actually found the target species. To see what we did find, click here. If you have ideas, want to attend, or need more information, contact HerpQuest Team Leader Bob Thomson.

Bodega Workshop in Applied Phylogenetics

For nine consecutive years, UCD has offered the Bodega Workshop. The course now accommodates about 35 students from UC Davis and across the globe. The course is organized by our UC Davis team (Brad Shaffer, Phil Spinks, Peter Wainwright), and taught by a dozen or so experts in phylogenetic methods from across the country. Its a week-long total immersion course, and we plan on continuing to offer it into the future. Although it is full for 2008, its not too early to think about it for 2009!
