UC Davis Programs

Center for Population Biology
Established in 1989, the CPB facilitates and coordinates multidisciplinary research and training programs among UC Davis scientists who study the genetics, ecology, and evolution of populations. Currently, about 40 faculty members from ten academic departments and divisions, approximately 55 graduate student affiliates and a dozen postdoctoral associates make up the Center membership.

Population Biology Graduate Group
UC Davis offers a graduate program in Population Biology which leads to a Ph.D. Areas of specialization include population growth, structure and dynamics (basic and applied); population interactions (competition, predation, parasitism, and mutualism); community ecology; food webs; biogeography; behavioral and physiological ecology; life-history strategies; systematics; evolution; population and quantitative genetics; and molecular evolution. In the September 1995 survey of graduate programs by the National Research Council, UC-Davis was placed fifth in the nation for ecology, evolution and behavior. More recently, a 2007 U.S. News and World Report survey of "America's Best Graduate Schools" ranked UC Davis No. 1 in Ecology/Evolutionary Biology.

Ecology Graduate Group
Now celebrating its 40th year, the UC Davis Graduate Group in Ecology (GGE) is the largest and most comprehensive ecology graduate training group of its kind. The group is recognized as a center for academic and training excellence in a broad spectrum of ecological areas. The group's diverse and dynamic collection of 200 students and 125 faculty come from 24 different departments/ units on campus.

College of Biological Sciences
The College is home to most of the basic research and undergraduate programs in the biological sciences at Davis.

Section of Evolution & Ecology
EVE, as it is widely known, is the primary department for basic evolution and ecology on campus. The section administers the Evolution, Ecology and Biodiversity undergraduate major, and houses about 25 faculty from a broad range of scientific disciplines.
